DAY 4 ASIAGO, BASSANO DEL GRAPPA AND THE VENETO TRAILS

Driver guided tour to Asiago e Bassano del Grappa with drop off in Vicenza.
The Asiago Plateau rises to an altitude of 3,281 feet. This enchanting landscape hosts green forests that are completely covered by the wintertime snow. A precipitous street – with ten hairpin turns along the way – that climbs upward from the plain offers magnificent scenery made up of vast fields, villages decorated by high bell towers and a crown of peaks in the backdrop. The name Asiago is indissolubly tied to the homonymous cheese, a delicacy produced, of course, on the Plateau since time immemorial, and classified as Protected Designation of Origin.
Bassano del Grappa is a little and beautiful Italian village known for wonderful Palladian architecture and unique foods and wines. The city lies at the foothills of the Prealps, where Brenta river emerges from the southern end of the Brenta valley and begins its traverse of the lowlands past Vicenza and Padua on its journey to the Adriatic.

The town is also famous for the “grappa”, made from distilling the remains from the winemaking process after pressing: grape skins, seeds and stems, called pomace. The symbol of Bassano is the beautiful covered pontoon bridge, designed by Palladio in 1569, destroyed many times and lately rebuilded thanks to the efforts of “Alpine soldiers”.

Arrive in Bologna late afternoon. Overnight in Bologna

Seat of the most ancient university in the western world, Bologna, in Emilia Romagna, is a city with an intense cultural life and intriguing historical legacy. First an important urban center under the Etruscans, then the Gauls and Romans, Bologna was also a well-known Medieval city within Europe. A European Capital of Culture in 2000, it was declared by UNESCO to be a "creative and musical city" in 2006. The afternoon is free. You may join one of the most cooking class available in the city.

The Province of Modena, in line with the best of Emilian traditions, is a lterritory defined by flavors, nature and its love for motors. Its Capital, Modena, is a city with an important past; to begin with, it was built along the ancient Via Emilia, and it seems to be Etruscan in origins. Later, the Celts and the Romans laid claim to it.
Mantua is one of the most beautiful jewels from the Renaissance in Italy’s territory. Mantua was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, together with Sabbioneta, city of art, in 2008. Mantua is deeply intertwined with the history of the noble Gonzaga Family who, during their reign 1328 to 1707, made the city into a Court of grand splendor. The city extends in peninsula form over three clear, reflecting lakes, created artificially as a defense for the city and designed using the curves of the River Mincio. The particularity created by the Superiore, di Mezzo and Inferiore Lakes render Mantua with the unique visual effect of springing from the water as if it were a tiny, inland Venice. Arrival in Verona late afternoon and overnight.

DAY 04 VERONA & VALPOLICELLA

Today explore the city of Verona with a private guide.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000, Verona is a wonderful exemplar of urban, artistic and architectonic integration of the historical epochs from the last 2000 years. Piazza Erbe is the best example: architecture from the Roman, Medieval and Renaissance periods harmoniously conjoined with the period of the Della Scala Family and 19th-Century palazzi.

Near the Adige River, other remarkable buildings from the Roman and Scaliger periods mark the most influential historical eras for the city: the fortress of Castelvecchio, now site of the Modern Art Museum; the Scaliger Bridge, an outstanding example of Medieval architecture; and the Scaliger Arches, superb tombs built for the lords of Verona.

On the other bank of the river, it is possible to admire the remains of the Roman Theatre, where the performances of the Shakespearian Festival and the Verona Jazz Festival take place. Not far away, Giardino Giusti, one of the most beautiful Italian gardens of the Renaissance, boast landscaping so beautiful that it has been declared a national monument.

In the afternoon, you may visit the beautiful Valpolicella with an expert driver guide. In the Province's heart is Valpolicella, land of history and flavors where, in addition to its numerous historic villas, the wine tradition is the distinguishing factor.
