day 01 Catania Arrival

Independent arrival at your hotel in Catania. At leisure until dinner at a typical restaurant. Welcome cocktail and overnight in the hotel. D

day 02 Catania

After breakfast, you will take part in a pastry class in a historical location in the city center of Catania. Here you will be accompanied by a professional Sicilian cuisine and culture connoisseur. You will have the chance to prepare and taste some of the pastries hat have made Sicily famous, such as cannoli, seni di Vergine (also called minnuzze di Sant’Agata, a sweet in the shape of breast, in memory of the martyrdom of the patron of Catana). Free time for lunch. In the afternoon, guided walking tour in Catania city centre: the Duomo Square with its Cathedral and the Elephant (symbol of the city) made of lava stone, the Baroque Via Crociferi. Back to the hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 03 Etna/Taormina

Breakfast at the hotel. Crossing suggestive landscapes, rich of different kinds of vegetation, we will reach the height of 2.000 meters to explore the highest active volcano in Europe: Mount Etna. Surrounded by ancient craters, you will admire a suggestive panorama of the Ionic Coast. We will visit the “Silvestri Craters” and the recent lava flows of 2001/2002. Stop in a local winery for a wine tasting and to visit of the cellar. We will then proceed to Taormina, the Pearl of the Ionic Sea, where, besides visiting the Greek Theatre, the Duomo and the Belvedere, you will have the chance to go shopping among the typical small streets of this nice town. Back to the hotel, dinner and overnight.

day 04 Modica/Ragusa

Breakfast at your hotel and depart to Modica, part of UNESCO Heritage Sites, for a pleasant walking tour in the charming historical center rich of chapels, churches, monasteries and Baroque palaces. Stop in a local laboratory to taste the famous chocolate deriving from an ancient Aztec recipe and to learn how it is produced. Free time for lunch on your own. In the afternoon we will visit an olive-mill to learn the process of oil production and to taste extra virgin olive oil and other local products (olives pickled in oil, tomatoes, bread, pesto sauces, jams, Nero d’Avola wine). We wll then proceed to Ragusa and visit the enchanting historical center “Ibla”, rich of Baroque palaces and churches. Back to the hotel, dinner and overnight.

day 05 Noto/Siracusa

After breakfast, depart to the Southern Sicily, to visit the Villa Romana del Tellaro, to admire the splendid mosaics and to learn how they were produced and used in the past. You will have the chance to create your own mosaic as souvenir of this experience. Tasting of local specialities. Proceed to Noto, the capital of Sicilian Baroque, for a walking tour in the historical center. Along the main street we will admire a plenty of Baroque examples, such as Porta Reale, Palazzo Ducezio, the Duomo and Palazzo Nicolaci. The visit will continue in Siracusa, visiting the Archeaological Park of Neapolis, famous for its Greek Theatre, the Roman Amphitheatre, the Ear of Diionysius and the Latomies of Paradise. We will then make a nice walking tour in Ortygia Island, the ancient historical center, where we will see the splendid Cathedral (built on the rests of a Greek T emple dedicated to Athena), the Tempe of Apollo and the Fountain of Arethusa with its papyrus plants. Back to the hotel, dinner and overnight.

day 06 Catania Departure

Your tour comes to an end after breakfast at your hotel.


Inclusions: 5 nights in Catania at the Hotel Manganelli Palace**** in twin room, dinner daily (excluding drinks) (dinner is served in a restaurant next to the hotel), private car with English speaking driver/escort (3 fully day excursions), cooking class with lunch, local guide 2hrs in Catania, 4hrs in Siracusa, wine and typical products tasting at a vineyard on the slopes of Mt Etna, tasting of Ancient Rome’s typical products at Villa Romana del Tellaro in Noto, visit an olive-mill in Ragusa area and tasting of local products, chocolate tasting in Modica and Vat
