day 1 Rome-Arrival
Airport pick up and welcome to Abruzzo dinner!
Early afternoon, met at Fiumicino Airport then travel across the magnificent Abruzzo mountain range and through amazing landscapes to the ancient Roman town of Vasto. After settling at a charming family run hotel meet your guide for a short stroll to the historical centre. Enjoy a welcome dinner at a traditional restaurant and discuss your unique holiday
day 2 Local Market-Cooking-History
A visit to the markets, cooking pasta with Mamma, exploring the historic centre
Breakfast on freshly baked bread, whole fruit country-style preserves, cake, pastries, coffee, tea and freshly squeezed juice. Then visit the colourful market to get seasonal products. We’ll learn how easy fresh pasta is to make at an exclusive cooking class with a housewife in her home and be introduced to her favorite seasonal sauces
The menu includes: bread with meat sauce, pasta alla chitarra with meat sauce and polpette (meatballs), Cavatelli with vegetables and Tarallucci (typical biscuits from Abruzzo), all pending on seasonal availability
Lunch on the scrumptious dishes that have been prepared in the morning.
In the afternoon we’ll explore Loggia Amblingh, a promenade overlooking the fascinating crescent-shaped coastline, the old town with its medieval Castle, charming lanes, a tower, the Cathedral and Piazza Rossetti, dedicated to Gabriele Rossetti, a poet from the town and father of Dante Gabriel Rossetti, who founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Before free time, we’ll meet some local artisans. Dine independently at one of the many excellent local restaurants.
day 3 Art Laboratory-Fishing Demonstration
After breakfast we’ll drive to a hilltop village of and visit Ettore’s Art Laboratory. Surrounded by an amazing landscape of mountains, hills, villages and sea views, we’ll have an artistic experience with Ettore where you may create your personal Christmas gift (postcards or a little sculpture). We’ll have an aperitif followed by lunch with EttoreAfter a scenic itinerary along the Trabocchi (ancient fishing equipment typical to Abruzzo) we’ll stop at Trabocco Punta Tufano. In this location, surrounded by the blue sea and olive groves, we’ll have a funny fishing experience with the “traboccante” (trabocco’s owner) Rinaldo that will share his love for manner of fishing. During your seafood aperitif you can relax breathing the sea atmosphere and taking some photos of the many beautiful marine landscape. Dinner will follow at a traditional restaurant in the heart of Vasto
day 4 Cooking Traditional Christmas
After a leisurely breakfast, we’ll prepare our lunch and learn some Christmas traditional dishes at Mama’s.
The menu includes ‘pallotte casce e ove’ (cheese & egg balls), cannelloni with ricotta cheese and spinach, Baccalà (Salted Cod) and Scrippelle (a typical Christmas sweet) which we’ll enjoy for lunch.
The afternoon is free for your own activities, which could be: shopping, visit a nature reserve, take part to some optional activities/excursions. Dine at your leisure.
day 5 Cheese Making-Medieval Castle
After breakfast we’ll make our way to the farm where Pina and Berardino will discuss traditional rearing of sheep and cows, you’re welcome to try your hand at milking. After a snack of cheese, we’ll learn how to prepare ricotta cheese in their creamery. We’ll also learn how to make a particular bread called “pizza scima’ (stupid pizza)
A delicious traditional lunch will be prepared and served. This will be the time to savor warm ricotta, freshly made.
In the afternoon we’ll explore the enchanting Abruzzo’s castle in the sky at Roccascalegna. Dine at your leisure.
day 6 Olive Oil-Wines-Pizza-Tiramisu`
Following breakfast we’ll visit the La Selvotta Olive Grove that has been farmed by Giovanni’s family for 3 generations to produce DOP olive oils. He will unfurl the secrets of what Homer described as “liquid gold”, the presention will be following by an olive oil tasting.
Next we’ll visit Fontefico, an award winning winery that sits between a marine park and the mountains. We’ll have a wine tasting with pairings from local cheeses and salami and a guided tour of the vineyard and cellars led by owners Emanuele and Nicola.
After lunch we’ll have a homemade pizza making class, including a lesson on traditional bruschette and the much loved tiramisu.
day 7 Farewells
After breakfast we depart for Rome Fiumicino airport (usually at 09.00) or your onward destination

Inclusions: arrival & departure transfers, accommodation at characteristic 3* hotel, breakfast daily, all transport for daily trips and excursions in an air conditioned vehicle, 4 lunches, 3 dinners with water and house wine in selected restaurants, winery visit and tasting, a trabocco fishing hut based on traditional regional dishes, tastings, 3 hands-on authentic Abruzzo cooking classes, personalized cooking booklet and apron, daily trips, excursions and guided tours, all entry fees for castles and museums, art experience with a local artist, English-speaking professional tour directors and licensed local guides as per itinerary, all taxes.
